Alice in wonderland [Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictores] visual effects highlights. show 3D flora landscapes.  It uses a mix of live footage and 3D environments and characters.  The green screen is used for the 3D to develop the environment. Certain props and sets are used in the scenes to give the actors a general idea of location.

In some of the behind the scenes they introduce a character in a green suit which tends to suggest that their body is going to be altered but any features that are visible will be kept in the footage. For the demonstration they were using green screen to fill in the physical body in 3D. This gave me the idea for our project:  We could do the make up on our actress’s face and head and leave the body in a green suit and fill in the rest of her body in 3D which would make it easier to do the changes in 3D. Leaving the head in 2D would save a lot of rendering for hair.

Techniques we could use:

green screen for possible 3D environments; include 2D images (actress & environment) to save modelling and rendering time.

I look at a couple of games that are related to natures and how we can incorporate sometechniques and idea to help develop our project.

[Thatgamecompany] Flower

I looked into Flower for a concept idea we could use in our environment. It shows a different variety of locations, but most of them feature grassy plains. Some areas are hilly and others are mountain range. I was thinking about how the environment interacts with player and how the player affects the environment. If we were to make part of our environment interact with our character most of it would have to be in 3D.

From Dust [Ubisoft] is a sandbox game that allows the player to manipulate the environment, using the elements around them. I was thinking that even though our character is the spirit of nature, she doesn’t always have to resemble a spirit of plant life however a spirit that can morph into all the elements.

This is a general concept idea. It is a comedy about how men want to build their homes on wild life territory thus ruining the homes of other animals. Later on it shows nature fighting back.  I thought this would be an interesting concept considering our project is looking at the decline of nature and how man’s greed and needs affect the appearance and existence of the environment.

In this video they show a personified nature and how she was gliding around and changing the environments around her.  As she moved through the environment she takes on the characteristics of the setting, eg she changes to water, to flowers..

A lot of the video is traditional 2D animation and this worked well for the flow of movement and grace.

Techniques we could use: We could use a flowing movement for our 3D character to add a sense of grace or spirituality.

The images shows the pollution of the environment by humans.  In the foreground there is lots of garbage and plastics. The living home is practically a rubbish dump.

Techniques we could use: to use images of waste products are being dumped on the environment to show how much pollution there is and its effect on the environment. We could focus on images of plastic, eg bags, containers etc as they don’t break down easily.INDIA-ENVIRONMENTarticle-pollution_16647_600x450  citarum-river-west-java-indonesia-the-most-polluted-river-in-the-world-the-flying-tortoise-001water-pollution-800x800-jpg

Colour schemes that I have chose for project. Because our project is nature there are a variety of colour schemes bright, bold colours and dull dark colours. As nature as a whole the colours consist in blues, greens, browns, greys, reds and yellows. Decay and pollution have similar colours too, however the colours are usually dark and harsh or very dull and pale. ForestTones513208077

I looked into a variety of characters in different genres to develop our character. These characters shown below have different abilities that control the weather or environment.

Storm from Marvel X-Men is a mutant that can control the weather at her free fill. She can summon atmospheric weather such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes, as well as mist.  She also has control of the temperature of the atmosphere too.

Elsa from Disney Frozen all be it she some time have control of her powers, when her emotions take hold of her she looses all control making her powers stronger and deadly. As she grows so does her powers.

Laura Vansquez from Men in black 2 was raise on earth but was born on Zartha. She is known as the light of Zartha and exists to protect the planet. She thinks she always cries when it rains, but in reality, it rains because she cries.

Poison Ivy from DC Batman although being a villain in the batman series she is one of the few to actually have powers. Her powers are unique as she is able to create and manipulate the plants around her. She is a character who’s motive fight again mankind that are a treat to plant life and will do everything in her power to protect them. There are time were she is deeply connected to her plant life that she can feel the pain that is inflected on them.

With these collection of characters I wanted to incorporate elements of them to our character, mostly based on how the environment affects her and her emotions. Even though she is figure of nature I wanted her to have a loss of control when she is under a lot of emotion. It also gave me an idea that even though the environment is effecting her, the consequences of the changes will be catastrophic.
