Zbrush hard surface brief

For this project the brief is simply to create a hard surface character whether it be a robot or, have human aspects or resemblance or a completely made up character. The only specification is that it has to be a character not an object.

The initial things I looked at were the z brush hard surfacing techniques and brushes along with some examples on their website. As I have only created a soft body character in z brush and I am not yet a 100% content with going straight into z brush a creating something.

I then went on to look at reference images  from films using mechanical robotic characters.

Ex mechana

This I found interesting but didn’t like the netting over the top of the robotics as it takes lots of the detail away.

Terminater

The terminator robots I found to be very box like and not something I would want to replicate as I wasn’t even sure if would create a human type robot. So wanted to steer away from the box shapes.

Transformers

 The difference between The terminator and Transformers was the different shapes and more definition and unique style in Transformers. This I really liked and what ever I choose to create I would like it to have more of a stylised look instead of a box type shape.

 Concept:

Metallic butterfly or armored. For this idea i began looking at butterflies in general.

I was looking at the shapes and patterns and found the image below which i thought be like streams of metal or copper fibers across the wing.

Then metallic butterfly whether it be earrings , necklaces or other metallic or armored creatures.
