These are a few images from my first life drawing classes in 2014 I wanted to show them in comparison to the recent ones I’ve done to hopefully see improvements.
This is some of my work from my life drawing classes and from images I came across 2015.
This I drew in pen on a piece of card at work from a picture. I think that it is abit too bulky compared to the model in the image I found. I tend to do this when drawing women by accident because the lines look to smooth and curvy when I draw women in comparision to a male figure, so I try and correct that by defining them a little more but it I definatley did that too much with this piece of work.
This one I also drew whilst at work from a reference it took roughly 5 minutes and I feel that it is better than the attempt prior one. It doesn’t look to bulky for a women but I do feel that it is difficult to tell from the image if its male or female which I don’t like. I do like the fact that there isn’t too much detail in the piece though, just a nice outline.
This I also did at work each took a few minutes each just to get a basic shape of the models positions.
This again I did at work in roughly 5 minutes as well and tried to get a bit more detail in it with shading, but again it turned a bit bulky.
This I did on a black table with chalk in a few minutes. This one I like because its not too bulky and I like the position of the model. I actually liked using the chalk to draw with in comparison to pencil or pen because it felt more relaxed.
These two both took roughly 5 minutes the right one was done in acrylic paint by finger painting, which I found helped me understand lighting slightly better as I couldn’t really start off with an outline I had to use block colour to create the shape.
These are some images from my life drawing classes 2015.
I like these images because I feel that I am starting to understand where the light hits the model a little better than before. As I have found it hard to differentiate the tones in someone’s skin colour and shade. I think the lights in the room itself helped as they were directed at the model as opposed to natural light from windows or normal light.
These two images were my favourite from the life drawing classes as they were done without outlines and using the shading to create the shape but the top one I did add in subtle outlines afterwards because some areas were fairly light.
Overall I think my life drawing has improved I definitely feel a lot more comfortable with it and feel like I am starting to add detail. I would like to progress more with it as I am not 100% happy with my work but I do see improvements.
Below is some concept art I did with the human physique.
